Custom Tools
Need a check our calculators don't cover? We build structural design tools for your products, your load cases and the way your team works.
What we build
- Checks for your products. Span tables, capacity checks and selection tools for a proprietary beam, connector, anchor or framing system.
- Your company's standard calculations. The spreadsheet everyone on your team copies and edits, turned into a tested tool that gives the same answer every time.
- Special load cases and members. Equipment loads, unusual supports, tapered or built-up members, or a code edition or local amendment we don't cover yet.
- Batch runs. Check hundreds of members or configurations at once instead of one at a time.
- AI integrations. Let your team's AI assistants run tested design checks through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, or build AI tools for your workflow where the AI sets up the problem and tested engineering code does the math.
- Reports in your format. Calculation packages with your title block, your layout and the equations your reviewers expect to see.
Built the same way as our calculators
Custom tools follow the same rules as everything on WebStructural: each check names the code section and equation it uses, results show their work, and the design code is covered by automated tests checked against hand calculations and published examples.
How it works
- Tell us the problem. Send a short description, and a sample calculation or spreadsheet if you have one.
- We scope it together. We agree on what the tool checks, which codes it follows and how you'll use it.
- We build and test it. You review results against your own calculations before anyone relies on them.
- You use it. As a private page on WebStructural, or set up to fit your existing workflow.
Who builds it
Custom tools are built by Jeff Lutzenberger, a civil engineer and software developer with a background in engineering mechanics and numerical analysis, and the developer of every calculator on this site. More about WebStructural.
